Acid rain is any form of precipitation that contains high levels of nitric and sulfuric acids. It can be in the form of snow, fog, and tiny dry material that settle to Earth.

Causes of acid rain
Most of the acid rain is the result of human activities: coal power plants, factories, and automobiles. When humans burn fossil fuels, many toxic gases go into the atmosphere and they react with water, oxygen, and other substances, and form acid. When acid rain reaches the Earth, it contaminates the water and the soil.

Acid rain has many ecological effects, especially on lakes, streams, wetlands, and other aquatic environments. Acid rain also damages forests because it removes essential nutrients from the soilThe effects of acid rain make animals, trees and plants less healthy and more vulnerable to cold temperatures, insects, and disease. Acid rain is also dangerous to humans because it can cause respiratory diseases.
